Breastfeeding: Is It Safe with Breast Implants?

By:
Kelly Shanahan

Question :

Is it safe to breastfeed your baby if you have breast implants?

--Wanda

Answer :

Yes, it is safe, but depending on how the implants were done, it is not always possible. If the implants were placed through an incision around the nipple, or if the nipple was transplanted for cosmetic reasons, then milk ducts may have been severed. Most implants today are done through small incisions under the breast or in the underarm area; these should not interfere with your ability to breastfeed.
